Hunter nets 24 as No. 15 Lady Texans pound Colorado Northwestern 82-23 Friday in Odessa

ODESSA — Kiki Hunter recorded her second double-double in as many days, netting 24 points and 17 boards as the No. 15 ranked South Plains College women's basketball team pounded Colorado Northwestern 82-23 Friday afternoon at the OC Sports Center to improve to 2-0 on the year.

South Pains will return to the court on Saturday at 2 p.m. to take on Mesa Community College in Odessa.

Hunter finished 10 of 16 from the field, recorded four blocked shots and three steals in 24 minutes of action. Freshman Sarah Shematsi bucketed 17 points on 7 of 16 shooting from the field to go along with a pair of assists over 31 minutes. Ruth Koang knocked down six of her eight attempts from the floor, tallying 12 points to go along with eight rebounds.

South Plains' Caroline Germond netted nine points and four boards as the Lady Texans shot 50 percent (35-70) in the contest and outrebounded the Spartans 42-22 on the glass. South Plains capped the first 20 minutes with a 39-6 lead at the midway point as they held Colorado Northwestern scoreless in the second quarter.

The Spartans would shoot just 20.5 percent (9-44) from the field including a 3 of 15 mark from the 3-point line as the Lady Texans forced 37 turnovers in the contest resulting in 39 points on the offensive end. South Plains had their way in inside, bucketing 58 points inside the paint and scored 19 points on second-chance opportunities.
