Lady Texans fall to Odessa 60-57 Monday night in Odessa

ODESSA — South Plains' Mikayla Kuehne netted a team-high 27 points, but four Lady Wranglers scoring in double figures was too much to overcome as Odessa escaped with a 60-57 victory over the Lady Texans on Monday Night.

Trailing by three with 3.4 seconds remaining following a pair of missed free throws from Odessa's Danyeal Goodhope, Gabbie Green got off one final shot from half court, but it would fall short as time expired as Odessa improved to 15-7 on the year and 3-4 in the WJCAC. South Plains falls to 14-9 on the year and 1-6 in conference play.

Kuehne finished 7 of 14 from the field, knocking down four 3s and a season-high nine free throws over 33 minutes. Freshman Christina Baker tallied 12 points, knocking down 6 of 11 attempts from the floor to go along with six boards. La'Praisjah Johnson chipped in nine points and grabbed seven rebounds over 36 minutes, while Green bucketed nine points, dished out four assists and corralled five boards for South Plains.

Shannon Dorier led the Lady Wranglers with 14 points and three assists, shooting 5 of 11 from the floor and knocked down a pair of 3s. Chinna Fair netted 12 points and handed out a team-high five assists, while Amanda Sodergvist bucked 11 and Goodhope finished with 11 points, three boards, and three assists.

South Plains shot 33.9 percent from the field and 23 percent from the perimeter, netting 20 points inside the paint and seven on second-chance opportunities. Odessa shot 44 percent from the floor and 38 percent from 3, posting a 53.6 percent shooting mark in the final 10 minutes. The Lady Wranglers tallied 17 points off turnovers and chipped in 24 points inside the paint.

South Plains will return to the hardwood on Thursday when they host Midland College at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome on 'Think Pink' night. The game will be streaming live at spctexans.com with pregame slated for 5:30 p.m.
