LEVELLAND — Mikayla Kuehne scored 25 points and Chantel Govan finished with 17 as the No.16-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team throttled Chandler-Gilbert 104-31 on Friday night at the Texan Dome to improve to 7-1 on the year.

Christina Baker finished with 15 points and two steals for South Plains while La'Praisjah Johnson chipped in 14 points and pulled in four rebounds. Alexis Popham pitched in with eight points and was 4 of 4 from the field while Gabbie Green totaled seven points and five boards.

"I wasn't able to find my shot in the first half, but I knew I had to play better in the second half because my mom was here to watch me," Kuehne said. "We wanted to play our game and we ran a new offense that is a lot more fluid and helps us move the ball around. I think every game that we play things come together a little bit more."

South Plains shot 59 percent from the field over 40 minutes including 45 percent from 3. The Lady Texans forced a season-high 37 turnovers and dominated the glass as they outrebounded their counterpart 36-25. South Plains jumped out to a commanding 28-9 lead after one quarter before eventually taking a 43-14 lead in the half.

"We try to work hard in practice and listen to what coach Petree tells us and go out and execute," Govan said. "We have two more big games in the next couple days and we have to stay focused and come in with a new mindset every game. We can't afford to take anyone lightly and have to come in tomorrow ready to work and play our game."

The Lady Texans could do no wrong in the final 20 minutes as they shot 57 percent from the field and 66 percent from behind the arc. South Plains outscored the Lady Coyotes 31-9 in the third and bucketed six 3s in the final stint. The Lady Texans dished out 20 assists and record a season-high 25 steals as they would outscore Chandler 31-9 in the fourth quarter.

As winners of seven straight, the Lady Texans will look to stay in the win column on Saturday when they host Phoenix College at 1 p.m. at the Texan Dome.
