CLARENDON — The No.16-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team picked up their fifth win in as many games to improve to 5-1 on the year with a 59-44 drumming of Seminole State on Saturday at the Bulldog Gymnasium.

Freshman Gabbie Green led all scorers with 15 points, 10 of which came in the final two quarters. Lubbock native Chelsea Hunter pitched in with 13 points while Mikayla Kuehne bucketed eight points including six in the third quarter. Christina Baker and McKenzie Taylor each had five points while Chantel Govan and La'Praisjah Johnson each had four.

South Plains used a 13-3 run to open the contest and went on to lead 24-17 at the half. The Lady Texans used a 24 point third quarter to extend their lead to 48-24 heading into the fourth. South Plains hit four 3s in the final 20 minutes as six different players would score in the second half.

"For such a young team, we have shown a lot of toughness and poise playing six games in nine days," South Plains College head coach Cayla Petree said. "Four of those have been on the road, so I'm extremely pleased to come out with these wins while our team continues to adjust to college basketball and grow as a team." 

The Lady Texans will return to the hardwood on Thursday when they host SWCID at 6:00 p.m. at the Texan Dome.
