Lady Texans return home for two-game stint beginning Tuesday against Garden City

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College women's basketball team will return home for a two-game stint beginning Tuesday when they host Garden City Community College at 5:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome.

The Lady Texans will make their home debut following a trip to Thatcher, Arizona over the weekend. South Plains split their first two games, falling to Cochise College 49-43 in the season opener before bouncing back in game two with a 71-48 win over Eastern Arizona.

Players to watch: 

Gabbie Green led the Lady Texans' offensive attack against Eastern Arizona, racking up 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the floor and went 3-for-3 from the 3-point line. Alexis Popham chipped in 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe against the Lady Monsters. Freshman Mikayla Kuehne scored 13 points in 26 minutes against Cochise and finished with nine points and four rebounds against Eastern Arizona.

Garden City comes into Tuesday with a 2-0 record after downing Lamar Community College 58-53 in their last outing on Nov. 4. The Broncbusters are led by freshman Daz'Monique Johnson, a 5'11 forward from Tyler, TX who is averaging 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Abigail Green and Jessica Carillo are each averaging 8.5 points per game for Garden City.
