    LEVELLAND — Mikayla Kuehne netted 12 points and Chantel Govan recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds as the South Plains College women's basketball team thumped Odessa College 50-35 Thursday night at the Texan Dome. South Plains ends the year with a 17-13 overall record including a 4-10 mark in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.   "I'm really proud of our one sophomore Maddie Dorris and I think this was the best game she's played this season," South Plains head coach Cayla Petree said. "I thought she played well in her last game at the Texan Dome, and to pick up this win for her is great. This was a total team effort and our defense was solid throughout the course of the game. We didn't play well in the first half offensively, and we bounced back in the second half with a much better mentality."

Mike Mamantov of Ameriprise Financial will be sponsoring the games and feeding all SPC employees a brisket taco dinner and giving away a $250.00 cash price at the halftime of each game. The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com.
  • Lady Texans catch fire late, quiet Lady Bulldogs 58-57 Monday in Clarendon

    Clarendon — The South Plains College women’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point third quarter deficit to down the Clarendon Lady Bulldogs 58-57 on Monday at the Bulldog Gymnasium. With the win, South Plains improves to 16-13 on the year and 3-10 in the WJCAC and will close out the regular season on Thursday when they host Odessa College at 5:45 p.m. on sophomore night at the Texan Dome. “I was really pleased with our effort, and from midway through the third quarter I thought we stepped up and responded to the challenge,” South Plains head coach Cayla Petree said. “It seemed like everyone stepped up and played big minutes, and the entire team was engaged and everyone understood that every possession was crucial and every possession mattered tonight.”

    LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men’s and women’s basketball teams return to the hardwood on Monday night in a conference road matchup with Clarendon College at the Bulldog Gymnasium. The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action. The Texans enter the contest with a threshold on second place in the WJCAC conference standings, sitting at 19-7 on the year and 11-3 in conference play. The Bulldogs are vowing for a spot in the regional tournament as they currently sit in fourth in the conference standings with an overall record of 18-10 including an 8-6 mark in the WJCAC.
  • Lady Texans fall to Western Texas 50-41 Monday in Snyder

    SNYDER, Texas — The South Plains College women’s basketball team fell to Western Texas 50-41 Monday night at Invenergy Coliseum. South Plains (15-13, 2-10) forced Western Texas to shoot just 33 percent from the field in the contest and 36 percent from behind the arc, but 30 turnovers on the offensive end proved to be too much in the final minutes. “You can’t win a basketball game with 30 turnovers, and Western Texas made aggressive plays on the defensive end tonight,” South Plains head coach Cayla Petree said. “Mental errors and unforced turnovers killed us. We weren’t disciplined on offense with our passes and it cost us in this one.”

The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com as Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action, with pregame slated for 5:30 p.m. The Texans enter Monday with an 18-7 record including a 10-3 mark in the WJCAC. South Plains has won four of it’s last five, most recently an 83-74 victory over New Mexico Junior College on Feb. 15 at the Dome in which the Texans overcame a 12-point halftime deficit.

    LEVELLAND — The South Plains College women’s basketball team fell to the fourth-ranked New Mexico Junior College Lady Thunderbirds 61-48 Thursday night at the Texan Dome. Trailing 17-11 after 10 minutes, South Plains strung together an 11-3 run to begin the second quarter capped by a 3 from freshman Mikayla Kuehne to put the Lady Texans up 22-20. South Plains’ Gabbie Green would extend the lead to five with a trey from the top of the key with 4:21 left in the first half.

The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30. HCSECU will be serving a complimentary fajita dinner for all SPC employees beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the Dome Floor. At halftime of each game, HCSECU will be giving away three (3) $100.00 cash prizes to SPC employees in attendance (must be present to win). At halftime of the men’s game, long time South Plains College Athletic Director Joe Tubb will be honored with his Western Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame plaque. Tubb served as the Director of Athletics for 33 years in Levelland, leading South Plains to 42 NJCAA national titles.
