#7 Lady Texans improve to 16-1 following a 80-61 shellacking of Scottsdale Community College on Friday

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona—The seventh ranked South Plains College Lady Texans improved to 16-1 on the year and 3-0 in the Bill Culver Memorial Classic with an 80-61 shellacking of Scottsdale Community College on Friday afternoon.

South Plains has now won 16 consecutive games dating back to Nov. 4.

"It's a great feeling to go 3-0 in this tournament, but it's also a feeling that you don't want go get comfortable," said Jasauen Beard, who finished with 23 points and recorded her 12th double-double on Friday. "This shows what we know what we're capable of, but at the same time because we don't want to get comfortable and let up."

Sophomore Elizabeth Cera finished the contest with 11 points for South Plains while Yanina Inkina and Brittany Smith each totaled 10 points for the Lady Texans. Felicia Jackson would finish with eight and Madeline Dorris bucketed seven points.

"Our offense has been rolling and we've been finding each other in the open spots," Smith said. "It feels great to win 16 in a row, I'm still upset we dropped that first game of the season, but this has been pretty big for us. We need to get ready again tomorrow and prepare for the next couple of weeks we have ahead of us. We need to come out again tomorrow and use that game to get us ready for what we have ahead of us."

South Plains will travel to Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Saturday for an exhibition beginning at 12 p.m. MST. The Lady Texans will look to continue their winning ways and stay in the win column before returning home to Levelland for a conference showdown with the No. 2 nationally ranked Odessa College Lady Wranglers on Jan. 9 at the Texan Dome.

"I want to see us play to our potential tomorrow," Beard said. "We need to avoid coming out flat and play down to the level of other teams. When we come out and play our game, it helps us when we get to those games when we play against teams like Odessa and New Mexico Junior College. When we get to those teams we can't come out and play flat."
