Scottsdale— Following a continuous back and forth battle with Mesa on Tuesday, South Plains head coach Cayla Petree wanted to see the resilience of her team in Wednesday's matchup against Scottsdale.

The Lady Texans responded in a major way, downing the Lady Chokes 74-64 behind Elizabeth Cera's 15-point performance in which the freshman shot 50 percent from the floor. South Plains' Ugochinyere Nwarie racked up 13 points and seven boards in the contest, while Taylor Holley finished with nine points and six rebounds.

Jasmyne Martin, Evelyn Omemmah and Sujei Cera each scored eight points for the Lady Texans, while Dabraisia Baty finished with six points and five assists.

South Plains showed a defensive presence from the opening tip, forcing Scottsdale to shoot just 33 percent (9-27) from the floor in the first twenty minutes. The Lady Texans inside presence on the glass proved to be crucial throughout the game as they out rebounded their opponent 41-27 and scored 22 points off forced turnovers.

"It felt really good to get that bad taste out of our mouth and bounce back and have a better day today," Petree said. "We had balanced scoring throughout the game and it was a total team effort today, and I couldn't be any more pleased with how our team responded to a little adversity. Yesterday was tough, but we came out and showed a lot of toughness today and I'm just really proud of them."

Now 11-5 on the season, the Lady Texans will conclude their road trip when they play their final game of the Bill Culver Memorial Classic in Arizona at 10 a.m. on Thursday against Phoenix College.
