LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams will take to the road Monday, Jan. 27 when they travel to Odessa where they will wrap up the first half of conference action when they take on the Odessa College Wranglers and Lady Wranglers.

It will be a critical contest for both teams as the NJCAA No. 1-ranked Texans will face a top-20 team in the No. 16-ranked Wranglers and the Lady Texans will try to knock off the conference leading Lady Wranglers.

The Odessa men (15-3, 4-2 WJCAC) have the league scoring leader in Josh Gray and have averaged 102 points per game overall on the season.  However, the barrage of scoring has slowed down a bit since entering league play to 88 in the six conference games.

South Plains (20-1, 7-0), on the other hand, has remained balanced, averaging 82 points per game over their 21 contests and 82 points in seven league games.

Whereas the Texans may focus on Odessa's leading scorer, the Wranglers will have to turn their attention to several players as South Plains has four putting in double digits per game.

Andre Spight – who recently went off for 24 points Thursday against Midland College – is giving the Texans a team high 16 per game.  In seven conference games, the Texans are also getting 14 points from Ryan Martin and Billydee Williams and Roderick Lawrence is chipping in 12.

The Lady Texans (10-9, 4-2) recently rebounded from a tough Monday night loss to Frank Phillips and defeated Midland College 71-65 Thursday night at the Texan Dome, and will now try to hand Odessa College their first league loss Monday night.

The SPC women have three big time scoring threats in Jasmine BrainardTaSheena Moore, and Alexius Dawn.

For the first time since league play started, Brainard was held below 20 points in a game when she came a field goal shy with 18 points Thursday night against Midland.  Brainard has put in 21 per game in six contests while Moore has been a steady hand with 14.  Dawn torched Midland with 26 and averages just under 14.

Live video of both contests will be available at www.spctexans.com.  Michael Wiiest will call the action from courtside on the live video feed as well as over the air on KLVT Radio 1230 AM.
