Brainard, the conference scoring leader with 18.2 points per game, made 9-of-14 shots from the field and, along with TaSheena Moore and Alexius Dawn, played all 40 minutes of the contest.

Moore chipped in 12 points for the Lady Texans, who moved within a game of Odessa and New Mexico in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference standings.

The two teams mostly exchanged buckets in what was a close first half. 

Down four, Moore hit a 3 just past the six-minute mark and Brainard followed with a bucket on the next possession to give the Lady Texans the lead, 18-17.

Dawn got a layup and Moore and Brainard hit two free throws apiece to complete an 11-0 scoring run to end the half as the two teams hit the locker room with South Plains leading 24-17.

Ijeoma Nzekwe gave the Lady Texans an 11-point lead early in the second half and South Plains College would not look back as they led by as many as 18 before settling for the 15-point victory.

South Plains (12-9, 6-2) will travel to Big Spring on Thursday, Feb. 6 where they will complete a three game road trip before returning home to the Texan Dome for a homecoming matchup with New Mexico JC Monday, Feb. 10.
