Lady Texans trounce Clarendon 86-56
CLARENDON – The trio of Jasmine BrainardAlexius Dawn, and TaSheena Moore once again led the Lady Texans Thursday night as the sophomores combined to score 67 points and grabbed 26 rebounds to help the SPC women trounce Clarendon College 86-56 in a conference road contest.

Brainard poured in career high 31 points by shooting a stellar 13-of-19 from the field and also pulled down eight rebounds.  Dawn had an all-around game with 23 points, seven assists, and six steals while Moore chipped in with a double-double of 13 points and a career high 13 rebounds.

The victory improves the Lady Texans to 14-10 overall and 8-3 in league play and only a game back of Odessa for second place in the WJCAC standings with only three games left to play.

South Plains found themselves in an early hole as the Lady Dawgs hit back to back 3s to start the game but promptly responded with a 12-2 run.

Dawn got the Lady Texans on the board with a drive in the paint and Briana Brighamresponded to a Clarendon goal with a 3 on the other end.  Brainard then sandwiched three free throws and a basket around another bucket by Dawn to give the Lady Texans a 12-8 lead early in the game.

Clarendon would give the Lady Texans a tussle for much of the first half.

Leading 24-21 late in the opening period, the Lady Texans separated themselves with a 6-0 run and went on to lead by as many as 10 before Clarendon converted a three-point play to end the half.

The Lady Texans quickly removed any doubt as to who the dominant team was when the second half began, quickly jumping out to a 15-point lead in the opening minutes and did not let up until the final buzzer showed a 30-point Lady Texan advantage.

The Lady Texans do not play again until Thursday, Feb. 20 when they will look to avenge a 68-62 loss they suffered to Frank Phillips Jan. 20 in Borger.  Tip off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

In an effort to promote breast cancer awareness, fans are encouraged to wear pink for the Lady Texans' game against Frank Phillips.  Fans will also be able to purchase tickets for a chance to win a Kindle Fire.  Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5 and the drawing will take place at halftime of the men's game.
