The loss will send South Plains to next month's Region 5 Tournament as the No. 3 seed from the WJCAC. A victory would have set up a Thursday night showdown with Odessa for dibs on the second seed.
South Plains (15-11, 9-4 WJCAC) controlled much of the game, holding a seven-point lead at halftime and even held a 55-48 advantage with less than nine minutes remaining.
A 13-2 scoring run gave Midland a four-point lead with 3:12 left on the clock.
Moore put back her own miss to bring the Lady Texans back to within two, but Midland scored five straight and led by seven to put the game out of reach before a last second three by Dawn left the Lady Texans with a four-point defeat.
The loss marks the eighth straight time South Plains has lost on Midland's home court, last winning in February 2006.
The Lady Texans will end their regular season Thursday night at the Texan Dome when Dawn, Moore, Briana Brigham, and Brainard play their final game donning a Lady Texan uniform.
The quartet of sophomores have been instrumental in 40 Lady Texan victories the last two seasons.
Tip off for Thursday's game is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NTS Channel 63 and online at www.spctexans.com. KLVT Radio will also carry the broadcast over the air on 1230 AM and www.klvtradio.com.
