Lady Texans runaway from Odessa College in regular season finale
LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Lady Texans closed out their regular season with a 79-58 victory over the Odessa College Lady Wranglers Thursday night at the Texan Dome, thanks in large part to big games from sophomores Jasmine BrainardTaSheena Moore, and Alexius Dawn.

Brainard and Moore led the way with 23 and 21 points, respectively, and Alexius Dawnchipped in with 18 to help the Lady Texans to a season sweep over Odessa.

Entering the game, South Plains knew they would be the No. 3 seed entering next week's Region 5 Tournament in Lubbock, but Odessa had a chance to move in to a tie with New Mexico if they beat the Lady Texans and the Lady T-Birds lost to Clarendon.

Neither happened as the Lady Texans dominated Odessa from the opening tip, bolting out to a 22-point lead late in the first half.

Odessa (21-7, 11-3) would score the final 11 points of the front half, but the Lady Texans still held a 38-27 advantage.

South Plains (16-11, 10-4) quickly regained the momentum in the second half.

TaSheena Moore scored 12 points in the first eight minutes of the back half to help South Plains rebuild their 22-point advantage and the Lady Texans never looked back as they went on to win by a 21-point margin.

In addition to scoring points, South Plains' trio of sophomore leaders also contributed in other ways.  Brainared pulled down seven rebounds while also dishing out six assists and Moore also shared the ball with seven assists.  Dawn had four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Rayvon Christian came off the bench to score 11 points and also had four rebounds and steals.

South Plains was 33-of-57 (.579) from the field for the game.

The Lady Texans are scheduled for a quarterfinal matchup with Collin County at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 6.  Collin County finished second in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) with an 11-3 league mark and were 24-6 overall.

One of those victories came Nov. 30 when they defeated South Plains 71-63 in the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by the Lady Cougars in Plano.
