Texans and Lady Texans look to win in Borger
LEVELLAND – The SPC Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams head back on the road Monday for matchups against Frank Phillips College at 5:45 p.m. for the women and 7:45 p.m. for the men.

The games will be broadcast live on the radio at 1230 AM KLVT Radio and online atwww.klvtradio.com with Michael Wiiest calling the action from courtside.  Live video will be unavailable.

The second-ranked Texans (18-1, 5-0 WJCAC) are looking to extend their winning streak to six games and remain undefeated in league play with a win over the Plainsmen (12-6, 2-2), who are still very much in the hunt to nab a top-four spot in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC).

South Plains has been tested in each of their last four games, all victories, versus Howard, New Mexico, Clarendon, and New Mexico Military.

Through five conference games, the Texans have five players averaging double figures, led by Billydee Williams who comes off the bench to score 15 points per contest.  Andre Spightis averaging just fewer than 15, while Ryan Martin and Roderick Lawrence have added 13 and 12, respectively.

After scoring six points per game in non-conference play, point guard Sekou Harris has come alive in league play with 11 points per game.

The Texans survived a scare in Borger last February, narrowly escaping with a 91-90 victory when point guard Devonte Smith grabbed and put back a missed free throw in the final seconds to secure a win that helped put the Texans in the post season.

Steve Green has a 22-4 record versus the Plainsmen since becoming head coach of the Texans.

The defending conference champion Lady Texans (9-8, 3-1) rebounded from their lone league loss with a 95-52 throttling of Clarendon College a week ago.

Sophomore Jasmine Brainard has led the Lady Texans throughout the year and has even picked up her game another notch since league play has begun, scoring at least 20 points in each of the Lady Texans' four conference contests and has her team only a half game behind Odessa and New Mexico for the lead in the standings.

Sophomore guards Alexius Dawn and TaSheena Moore are also dropping double digits with 13.3 and 12.8 points per game in league play.

Lady Texan head coach Michelle Wyatt has an unblemished record against Frank Phillips, winning 18 times since becoming head coach.
