SPC basketball hosts Howard College on McDonald’s Night
LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams will resume conference play Monday, Jan. 6, when they host Howard College at the Texan Dome.  Game time is set for 5:45 p.m. for the women and 7:45 p.m. for the men.

McDonald's of Levelland has purchased tickets for students in Hockley County to attend the game.  Tickets will be dropped off at each school's superintendent's office the morning of Jan. 6.

Live video of the games will be available at www.spctexans.com.  Fans can also listen over the air on KLVT 1230 AM with Michael Wiiest calling the action.

The men's contest will feature a contest between the No. 2- and No. 11-ranked teams in the NJCAA when the Texans take on the defending WJCAC champion Howard College Hawks.

The only blemish on South Plains' schedule came when they recently fell to No. 12-ranked Monroe, 73-72, in the semifinal round of the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout Saturday, Dec. 28, as the Texans enter the contest with an overall record of 14-1.

Howard College enters their second WJCAC contest with a 13-2 overall record.  They also recently dropped a game in Arizona in an 87-85 overtime loss to Cochise Dec. 30.  Both the Texans and the Hawks have identical 1-0 records in the WJCAC.

The Texans have four players averaging in double figures through fifteen games, led by freshman Andre Spight's 16.2.  Roderick Lawrence and Ryan Martin are each adding nearly 14 per game, while Billydee Williams is chipping in with 11.

The defending WJCAC Champion Lady Texans will return to conference play after taking three-of-four games played in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

The Lady Texans enter their second WJCAC contest with an overall record of 7-7, while the Lady Hawks are currently 9-7 overall.  South Plains won their Dec. 7 conference opener against Western Texas, however, while Howard is seeking their first conference victory following a Dec. 4 setback to Midland.

Throughout the season, the Lady Texans have been led by last year's WJCAC all-conference selections Alexius Dawn and TaSheena Moore as well as team points scoring leaderJasmine Brainard.
