GILBERT, Ariz. – The South Plains College Lady Texans wasted no time in taking care Chandler-Gilbert as they jumped out to a 57-18 halftime lead and ultimately cruised to an 86-65 victory Saturday in the first of four games on a Phoenix, Ariz. area road trip.
Sophomore guard Alexius Dawn led the way for the Lady Texans, scoring a game high 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field. Sophomore Jasmine Brainard added 23, making 10-of-15 shots.
South Plains (5-6) made 36-of-64 shots from the field, including 7-of-14 from behind the 3-point arc.
The Lady Texans will look to even up their overall record at 4 p.m. Sunday evening when they face Mesa College in the first-of-three games at the Bill Culver Classic, hosted by Scottsdale Community College.
