Lady Texans Finish Season With 24-8 Record

LUBBOCK, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texans season ended today at the hands of Collin County Community College in the first round of the NJCAA Region 5 tournament held at the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University. SPC finishes the 2008-2009 season with an overall record of 24-7.

Trailing 4-2 minutes into the game, SPC went on an 8-0 run over the next five minutes to jump out to a 12-4 lead with nine minutes remaining in the half. Unfortunately for SPC, Collin answered the Lady Texan run by scoring 13 unanswered points and eventually went to the locker room leading 19-18.

Collin's Erin Lewis nailed a 3-pointer ten seconds into the second half, followed quickly by a Codi Starks field goal to begin the half scoring five straight points and jumping out to a six point lead.

Over the next 13 minutes the Lady Texans could not get any closer than five points and even found themselves down by as many as 12 points with less than eight minutes remaining, at which point SPC went on a 10-2 run to close the gap to four. That was as close as the Lady Texans could get as they fell to Collin 58-50

Sajoyia Griffin led the Lady Texans with 20 points and nine rebounds. Lubbock native Taniqua Ards added 11 and fellow post player Samiesha Williams had 10 points and six rebounds. Also for SPC, Lashanda Luckey had four points, Rachel Gray and Dayon Hall-Jones each added two, and Chasity Workman scored one point and had eight rebounds.
