Coach Wyatt Earns 100th Career Victory
Hobbs, N.M. - The South Plains College Lady Texans gained control of second place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference standings Monday when they defeated the New Mexico Junior College Lady Thunderbirds 76-51.  South Plains broke the tie in the standings with NMJC, who dropped to 4-3 in WJCAC play. 
This was also a big night for Lady Texan head coach Michelle Wyatt as she won her 100th game as head coach of the South Plains College Lady Texan basketball team.With four different lead changes and five ties in the first half, neither team could grasp control of the momentum. 
In the first twenty minutes, the Lady Texans led by as many as four points, trailed by no more than three and went to the locker room with a 35-33 lead.

The first six minutes of the second half had many in the crowd expecting a close game in the end.  With 13:55 left in the game SPC led by a score of 48-46.  It was then they began an 8-0 run that took place over the next five minutes to take a ten point lead.  New Mexico's Brittany White temporarily halted the run with a three pointer to bring the game back to within seven points.  Leading 56-49 with just over eight minutes remaining, the Lady Texans dominated the rest of the game, finishing with a 20-2 run to win 76-51.  

Chasity Workman had a season high 22 points while also pulling down 12 rebounds to lead all players in both categories.  Lubbock native Taniqua Ards continued to be a consistent scorer for SPC, adding 21 points.  Ards also recorded a double-double as she pulled down ten rebounds.  Freshman Samiesha Williams had a career high 13 points for the Lady Texans.  Rachel Gray added nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Lady Texans return to the Texan Dome on Thursday, January 29 when they face Western Texas College at 5:30 p.m.  South Plains defeated the Lady Westerners 80-51 when they played December 3.  The game will be aired live on KLVT 1230 AM and www.hprnetwork.com.
