Lady Texans Fall to Midland

MIDLAND, Texas - The 12th ranked South Plains College Lady Texans fell to 16-4 overall and 3-1 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference action Thursday night with a 78-37 loss to the hands of 3rd ranked Midland College.

The Lady Texans could never quite get their shooting hands hot as they shot only 13-of-59 (22%) from the field for the game and did not make a 3-point attempt on eight shots from beyond the arc. South Plains also hit only 11-of-21 free throw attempts, while Midland College shot 32-of-69 from the field, nailed seven three pointers and 7-of-9 free throw attempts.

South Plains also lost to Midland in non-conference action on November 22. However, that game was much closer as Midland won 84-76. The Lady Texans have a chance to get some revenge as they will play Midland again next month in the Texan Dome.

Sajoyia Griffin led the Lady Texans in scoring with nine points, while Lubbock native Taniqua Ards added six. Rachel Gray scored five, Chasity Workman and Lashanda Luckey each had four, Samiesha Williams scored three, and McKinsie East, Christen McLee, and Dayon Hall-Jones each added two.

The Lady Texans return to the Texan Dome on Monday, January 19 where they will face Frank Phillips College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and will be aired live on KLVT 1230 AM and www.hprnetwork.com.
