Hutchinson, Kan. - The South Plains College Lady Texans defeated Butler County Community College 79-68 on the first day of the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Hutchinson College November 28-29, 2008.

South Plains had four players score in double figures, led by McKinsie East who finished the game with 14 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and shooting perfect from the free throw line, making all eight shots from the charity stripe. Taniqua Ards and Rachel Gray each scored 13 points and Sajoyia Griffin came off the bench to add 12 points. Gray added 10 rebounds in the winning effort. Also for SPC, Tasheena Byrd scored nine points and dished out seven assists, Dayon Hall-Jones added eight points, Chasity Workman scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Samiesha Williams added four points.

South Plains was defeated by tournament host Hutchinson on the second day by a score of 65-59.

The Lady Texans were led by Dayon Hall-Jones, who scored 18 points. Sajoyia Griffin and Taniqua Ards added 11 points each, Samiesha Williams scored eight, Tasheena Byrd five, and Chasity Workman scored two.

The Lady Texans will travel to Snyder, Texas on Wednesday, December 3 to face Western Texas College at 5:30 p.m. to open the conference season.
