South Plains Track and Field to kickoff Outdoor campaign on Saturday in El Paso

El PASO—The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their 2017 outdoor campaign on Saturday at the UTEP Springtime meet at Kidd Field.

Naomi Kerari and Bosiboro Mosongo got things started for the Lady Texans as the duo tied for sixth in the high jump with their final marks of 4' 10.25". Jannia Price placed fifth in the women's discus with a final throw of 141' 9.5". Mclendon Hill used a mark of 49' 2.5" in the men's shot put for a second place finish.

Melody Korie soared 18' 2.5" in the women's long jump placing sixth overall, while Laquan Nairn and Derrick Monroe placed first and second in the men's long jump with their final marks of 24' 9" and 24' 5", respectively. Jonathan Witt cleared 12' 11.5" in the men's pole vault placing first overall, while Katelyn Clarkston took sixth in the women's javelin with a throw of 120' 2".

Adrian Williams would go on to take first in the men's javelin with a mark of 215' 6", while Witt placed third with a throw of 135' 3.5". Patrick Johnson and Hill went on to place sixth and seventh for the Texans in the men's discus with their final marks of 93' 0.5" and 86' 1.25", respectively. Kiona Bradshaw used a throw of 46' 1.5" in the women's shot put to take first overall, while Cha'Kaylin Gilbert leapt 39' 1" in the women's triple jump, good enough for fifth place.

The Texans 4x100 meter relay team ran a 40.65 to take first overall, while the Lady Texans 4x100 meter relay team placed third with a time of 46.37. South Plains placed two runners inside the top 10 in the women's 1500 meters as Seselia Dala and Leslie Romero placed fifth and ninth overall with their final times of 4:52.95 and 5:03.81.

The Texans swept the top three spots in the 110-meter hurdles as William Watson placed first with a time of 14.22, while Robert Dunning and Mason Weh placed second and third with final times of 14.32 and 14.37, respectively. Natassha McDonald earned a second place finish in the women's 400 meters crossing the finish line at 53.60, while Junior Charles placed second for the Texans in the men's 400 meters with a time of 48.03. Montel Hood also placed inside the top five with his final time of 48.15, good enough for third overall.

Safia Bright ran an 11.98 in the women's 100 meters placing sixth overall, while Taylor Hill placed seventh with her time of 12.04. Robert Downs Jr. blazed the competition in the men's 800 meters as he crossed the line at 1:53.5, good enough for first overall. The Texans earned a 1-2-3 finish in the men's 400 hurdles as Rayan Holmes placed first with a 52.54, while William Watson and Myles Scott took second and third with their times of 52.81 and 54.71, respectively.

Mauricia Prieto ran a 23.84 in the women's 200 meters placing first overall for the Lady Texans, while Jordan Atkinson earned a fifth place finish in the men's 200 meters with a time of 21.55. Felix Kosgei took first in the men's 5000 meters with a time of 15:20.61, while Poro Gahekave placed second in the women's 5000 meters with her time of 19:18.88.

South Plains placed first in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:13.62, while the Lady Texans earned a third place finish in the women's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:56.13.
