Texans win fourth straight, pound Western Texas 87-71 in Snyder

SNYDER — The South Plains College men's basketball team won its fourth consecutive conference matchup Thursday night as they pounded Western Texas College 87-71 at Invenergy Court.

The win moves the Texans to 16-10 on the season and 10-4 in league play as they look forward to Monday night when they host #9 Odessa College at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome. Following Monday's contest, SPC will wrap up the regular season against Midland on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dome.

SPC shot 47.8 percent from the field and knocked down 15 3s, shooting over 46 percent from distance against the Westerners. Jaden Harris led the way with 12 points and five boards over 20 minutes, dropping in 4 of 6 shots from the floor and was 3 of 5 from distance.

Savion Gallion provided 12 points and three rebounds off the bench, connecting on 4 of 9 shots from the floor and was 4 of 8 from 3 in 19 minutes of action. DJ Avery chipped in 12 points and snagged a pair of rebounds for South Plains while Khalifa Sakho and Malek Abdelgowad combined for 20 points, with each netting 10.

Western Texas edged South Plains 41-38 on the glass, as each team tallied 22 points inside the paint. SPC poured in 13 points on second-chance opportunities, receiving 35 points from their bench as they forced Western Texas to shoot just 39 percent from the floor.
