#18 Odessa tops Texans 92-63 Thursday

ODESSA — The South Plains College men's basketball team fell to No. 18 Odessa College 92-63 on Thursday at the OC Sports Center, snapping the Texans' four-game win streak.

SPC moves to 11-8 on the season and 5-2 in the WJCAC and will look to get back in the win column on Monday when they travel to Midland for a 7:30 p.m. tip against the Chaparrals. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com and can be heard locally on KLVT Radio AM1230.

The Texans shot just 34.6 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from distance, and 57.6 percent from the free throw line in the contest. Kieves Turner led SPC on the offensive end with 13 points over 29 minutes, while Malek Abdelgowad chipped in 12 points and snagged five boards off the bench.

Odessa shot 53.1 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from distance, led by Daniss Jenkins who tallied a game-high 17 points for the Wranglers. Dontrell Hewlett netted 11 points to go along with four boards and a pair of assists, while Daniel Rivera poured in 10 points and grabbed four boards. Odessa won the battle on the glass 43-24, totaling 48 points inside the paint, and capitalized with 13 points on second-chance opportunities.
