Top-ranked Texans trounce Western Texas 89-66 Thursday in Snyder

SNYDER — The top-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team shot a season-high 60 percent from the field and knocked down 11 3s en route to an 89-66 conference road win over Western Texas College Thursday at Invenergy Court.

Trey Wade and Gaige Prim each finished with 23 points as the Texans improved to 17-1 on the season and 6-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. South Plains will be off on Monday and will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Clarendon to take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. from the Bulldog Gymnasium. The contest will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action with pregame slated for 7:15 p.m.

Prim finished 11 of 14 from the floor to go along with 16 rebounds in 25 minutes of action for the Texans. Wade knocked down 9 of 13 attempts and grabbed nine rebounds, tallied three blocked shots and a pair of assists over 30 minutes.

South Plains' Jonah Antonio bucketed 4 of 9 attempts from the floor and was 3 of 6 from the perimeter, netting 11 points and four assists over 37 minutes. Charles Jennings chipped in 11 points and dished out a team-high six assist coming off the bench for the Texans while Deon Barett netted nine points and five assists and Christian Wilson poured in six points and hauled in six rebounds.

South Plains shot a 47 percent clip from behind the arc as six Texans connected from the outside against the Westerners. Western Texas (9-7, 1-4) shot 45 percent from the floor and 8 of 23 from long range. Jevon Brown totaled 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists for the Westerners while Steven Allison tallied 11 points and Carson Hammond finished with seven points, five assist and four boards.
