Texans end Arizona road trip with 69-52 rout of Chandler-Gilbert

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The South Plains College men's basketball team closed out a four-game road stint in Arizona with a 69-52 rout of Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Sunday.

Sophomore Raymond Doby anchored the Texans on the offensive end, pouring in 13 points, seven coming in the first half as South Plains improved to 10-4 on the year. Deshawn Corprew and Chris Orlina each chipped in 11 points while Marcel Thompson totaled nine including a trio of 3s.

Chandler's Jordan Mitchell led all scorers with 15 points, eight coming in the first 20 minutes. Isaiah Ledford and Derek Fulner combined for eight points as the Coyotes fell to 9-4 on the year.

South Plains jumped out to a 41-24 lead after 20 minutes as Thompson bucketed six points before the break and Orlina pitched in five. Mitchell led all scorers at the midway point with eight and Ledford chipped in six thanks to a pair of 3s.

Corprew led the Texans in the back half with eight points and Doby totaled six in the final stint. Orlina added six and Will Washington chipped in three as the Texans end their road trip in the desert 3-1 overall.

South Plains will be back on the hardwood when they travel to Big Spring on Monday, Jan. 8 for a conference showdown with the Howard Hawks with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
