Texans down Murray State 105-71 to improve to 8-0 on Saturday in McKinney

MCKINNEY—The South Plains College Texans improved to 8-0 on Saturday following a 105-71 drumming of Murray State College at the Collin County Classic.

Jordan Brangers led all scorers with 21 points and went 5-for-9 from behind the arc totaling 17 points in the first 20 minutes. Raquan Mitchell chipped in 20 points and went 9-for-12 from the floor while Roberto Gallinat finished with 18.

"We got off to a slow start, but once we got things going and started playing more defense things started rolling for us," Brangers said. "Once we got a nice lead in the first half we just let things play out and things took care of itself. Everyone started playing their part and we were able to have some success. It feels good to be 8-0, but like coach Green said, once we go play Midland on Wednesday everything is zero, zero."

The Texans shot 62 percent in the first half including 11-of-19 from the 3-point line. South Plains led 62-42 at the half. Brangers and Mitchell combined for 33 points in the first 20 minutes.

The second half saw much of the same as the Texans outscored the Aggies 43-29 and forced them to shoot just 27 percent from the field. After a scoreless first half, Gallinat shot lights out in the final 20 minutes, totaling all of his 18 points in the final frame.

"I just had to wait for the game to come to me," Gallinat said. "I've been kind of slacking the past couple of nights, and my teammates were looking out for me so I could get back on my feat. Our plays were able to get us some open shots and we locked down on defense in the second half. We need to stay focused on Wednesday when we go to Midland, ignore the crowd and just do what we do."

South Plains will open up conference play on Nov. 30 when they travel to Midland with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. All games can be watched live at spctexans.com using the 'Watch Games' tab at the top of the page.
