From the tip of the game the Texans took control of the ball putting points over Odessa quickly. Emmanuel Omogbo took the first dunk of the game in less than 10 seconds in.
Not long into the first half Odessa is forced to take a timeout after Brandon Neel sinks a three point shot putting the Texans ahead, 8-0. Odessa tried and tried to get their points above South Plains, but they never once took the lead over the Texans.
Rebounding was key in the game Monday night; the Texans did well in putting the ball back up to increase the gap between them and Odessa.
Pat Birt helped increase the score by knocking in two points down by the block, and after a steal from Andre Spight, Birt was back down the court for a three-point shot putting the Texans ahead by five points with 10 minutes left in the first half.
The score kept going up for the Texans till the end of the first half where they led by 17 points, 11 of those points scored by Birt.
Only three minutes into the second half Odessa tried to come back but Lincoln Davis pulled up with a dunk over the Wranglers.
Not a minute later Spight laid another slam-dunk up for Davis, who hung while the crowd roared and cheered. One minute later Davis graced us with another slam, pumping up the team and crowd, to put the Texans at a 60-42 lead.
Omogbo followed Davis in dunks, putting in three in a row as well, setting the Texans up with a 20 point difference over the Wranglers, with less than five minutes left in the game.
Odessa tried putting full court pressure on the Texans but South Plains pushed past quickly not letting it affect their ability to put more points on the scoreboard.
Spight led the team with 21 points, Omogbo close behind with 20 points, and Birt put down 19 points over Odessa as well.
Texans will be continuing conference play Monday, Feb. 2 in Snyder, Texas against Western Texas College. The game will be streamed live at 7:45 p.m on spctexans.com.
