Texans shoot down the Thunderbirds

Texans won against New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds 95-86 in the Texan Dome, Jan. 10.

From the tip of the game the Texans pushed offensively, starting very strong.

Play was back and forth, both teams had aggressive defense, but South Plains played smart and earned every point.

The teams were playing point for point throughout the first half of the game, with two minutes left the teams tied at 30-30.

With only four seconds left in the half New Mexico pulled ahead, 38-35, putting the Texans behind heading to intermission.

Texans came out ready to play the second half with a three point shot early in the game by 1,Andre Spight. New Mexico tried to put more pressure on South Plains but the Texans handled it well.

New Mexico took a small lead ten minutes into the half but could not match South Plains offensive. Texans had three, three point plays in a row; a 2 point shot followed by a made on the free throw, in addition to the two back to back three pointers that put the Texans ahead by two.

The Thunderbirds tried to soar against the Texans but were shot down. South Plains took the advantage to increase the space between them and New Mexico for the win.

Pat Birt had his highest scoring game this season. Leading the team with 34 points against New Mexico.

Monday, Jan. 12 the Texans will be traveling to Clarendon, Texas to take on the Clarendon College Bulldogs.
