No. 25 Texans defeat Odessa 80-69 in final conference game

The Texans have qualified, along with Howard College, New Mexico Junior College, and New Mexico Military Institute from the WJCAC for the Region V Tournament in Brownwood March 4-7. To determine the No. 1 seed in the WJCAC for the regional tournament there will be a coin flip between South Plains and Howard.

 

Brandon Neel led the Texans with 20 points, along with 18 points made by Emmanuel Ogmobo that aided in the win over the Wranglers. South Plains increased their lead the most during the second period of the game, where they started ahead by two points from the end of the first half.

 

The first half of the game the Texans and Wranglers were point for point, with neither team creating a large lead between the other. With only two minutes remaining in the first half the game the score was tied at 34-34, then Jerron Martin made a two-point shot that put the Texans ahead by one. From that point, the Texans increased a distance between them and Odessa claiming the win by 11 points at the end.

 

The Texans will be continuing play in Brownwood on Thursday, March 5, 2015. The coin flip this morning, Feb. 25 placed South Plains College in the No. 1 Seed in the NJCAA Region V Tournament, they are set to play Temple College at 12:00pm on Thursday, March 5; the game will be streamed live on spctexans.com.
