South Plains Falls to NW Florida in Championship game in Overtime

Steve Green spoke of how proud he was of the team and grateful of all the support from families, friends, and the school. That in his mind his team was champions.

"I am extremely proud of everything we accomplished," said Green to his team after the game. "When you look at where we started [the season] with injuries and all sorts of stuff and then to be playing on the very last day at the very last hour, and up to the very last minute."

South Plains did fight hard, the first half of the game the Texans fell below NW Florida by 13 points, but they fought their way back with game turning points like back-to-back three pointers by Andre Horne, a two and one play by Marlon Jones, and layups by Diamante Langston and Lincoln Davis.

The Texans were still down by one at the end of the half, and the second half was a grind to the finish. Both South Plains and Northwest Florida won their semifinal games in overtime on Friday night.

Langston made the first basket in overtime while later at 2:18 in overtime, Andre Spight put South Plains in front 77-76. Thirty-seven seconds remained in overtime Langston was fouled and put on the line with the Raiders leading 81-79. Only making one of the two, Northwest Florida rebound and was fouled and made both free throws for the win.

Emmanuel Omogbo led the team with 21 points and ten rebounds; David Kadiri made 13 points for the Texans and had 14 rebounds. Spight put in his 11 points in the second half of the game, and Langston had ten points.
