LEVELLAND, Texas - After much speculation, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Basketball Coaches Association released the 2011-12 Coach and Player of the Year Awards Thursday afternoon. As many expected, sophomore guard Marshall Henderson was named the Division I Player of the Year after helping lead the Texans to an unprecedented 36-0 season that was capped with an 81-68 victory over Northwest Florida State College in the NJCAA Championship game March 24.
Henderson scored a game high 32 points in the championship game, including an off-balance 3-pointer as the shot clock expired with only minutes remaining on the game clock that all but took the wind out of the opposing Raiders.
During the season Henderson made several spectacular shots and scored double figures in all but four games and led the team in scoring with just under 20 points per game.
Next year Henderson will be playing in the Southeastern Confernce (SEC) as he has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Mississippi.
For his efforts in guiding the team, head coach Steve Green earned his second Division I Coach of the Year award following his second national championship season with the Texans. Green also led the 2008 squad to the NJCAA Championship.
As head coach of the Texans Green has an overall record of 301-65. During his career as a head coach Green has won 455 games.
