Think Pink Night at the Texan Dome highlights busy week for SPC basketball

LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College basketball teams are full throttle into the homestretch of their respective seasons and this upcoming week is no exception. On Monday, the Texans and Lady Texans will travel to Odessa for games against the Wranglers and Lady Wranglers before returning home Thursday, February 16, when they host Frank Phillips College at the Texan Dome on 'Think Pink' Night, sponsored by Covenant Hospital of Levelland. In an effort to raise money for breast cancer awareness, an Apple iPad2 will be raffled off at halftime of the Texan game on February 16. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the athletic department at 716-2221, or at the gate on game day.

Before Thursday's home games, however, the Texans and Lady Texans have some business to tend to in Odessa.

Monday's men's contest will feature yet another top-10 showdown between the top two scoring teams in the conference. South Plains is the top-ranked team in all of the NJCAA, while the Odessa Wranglers enter at No. 10. The teams duked it out during a No. 2 versus No. 5 showdown January 19; a game the Texans won 73-62.

The SPC men (23-0, 8-0) are coming off a 90-83 home victory over Midland College and own a two game lead over Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) foes Howard College and Odessa College. A win Monday would widen the gap on the tenth-ranked Wranglers as the regular season begins to wind down.

A win for the Lady Texans (6-17, 3-4) would help avenge a heartbreaking overtime loss last month at the Texan Dome and help SPC cling to the fourth spot in the WJCAC standings.

Defeating the Lady Wranglers will be no small task as Odessa's only conference loss came at the hands of league leading New Mexico. Since then Odessa seems to have found its rhythm with a four game winning streak.

Live video for both games will be available at www.spctexans.com and KLVT's Michael Wiiest will call the courtside action. The games will also be available locally on KLVT 1230 AM as well as online at www.klvtradio.com.
