LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Texan and Lady Texan basketball teams will be hosting Midland College on Thursday, January 13 at the Texan Dome. The SPC women will tip at 5:45 p.m., while the men are scheduled to get started at 7:45 p.m.
The SPC women will enter the conference home opener with an overall record of 9-5, and a WJCAC record of 0-1 after falling to Howard College 67-55 Monday in Big Spring.

Lady Texan head coach Michelle Wyatt says they are going to have to take better care of the basketball and limit turnovers in their game against the No. 7 ranked Lady Chaps.
"They are tough. They are bigger inside and shoot the three really well so we have to use our athleticism and try to push the ball and play tough," says the seventh year head coach. "Lauren (McKinney) and Toi'Easha (Cooper) are two of the most athletic post players in the league at the four spot so we are trying to get them to get out and run the court and use that as a strength for us."
The Texans also fell to the Hawks in a game that went down to the wire and will enter at 11-5 overall as well as 0-1 in WJCAC play. Midland College (15-2, 1-0) will be another tough test as they enter with a No. 18 ranking in the NJCAA.
Texan head coach Steve Green said the size, ability, and experience of the Chaps are of concern. Green also praised their point guard, calling him possibly the best player in the conference and used last season's February 8th game against then No. 1 ranked Midland as an example.
"We had them rattled and dang near had them beat and he throws in a couple of threes. You can't leave the guy open," says Green. "He will quietly play the game and then suddenly stick a dagger in you."
Tickets for the game have been passed out to area schools, courtesy of your Levelland McDonalds, so all students in Hockley County should have admittance to the game.
