CHANDLER, Ariz. - Freshman Greg Gainey exploded for 16 second half points to finish with 18 in the game on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and also pulled down 11 rebounds in 37 minutes to help lead South Plains College (8-4, 0-0) to their fourth consecutive victory by defeating Chandler-Gilbert Community College 65-58 Monday evening.

Deshaunt Walker got the Texans on the board first with a deep three point bucket and by the time the first half ended the Texans found themselves up by five points, 28-23.

SPC jumped on Chandler in the opening minutes of the second half by scoring the first six points to widen their margin by 11.

After battling back and forth for much of the next seven minutes, SPC was able to muster out an eight point lead, 55-47, with six minutes to go in the contest.

Sophomore Brandon Thompson responded with a three point bucket that made it a two possession game and allowed the Texans to go on to a seven point victory.

Thompson and Malcolm Miller contributed to the Texan cause by scoring nine points each, while Kenny Brown and Deshaunt Walker added eight apiece. Stanton Kidd shot 3-of-3 from the field and added a free throw to finish with seven points. Derrell Edwards contributed with six points.
