Texans Begin Four-Game Arizona Road Trip on January 3rd

After one month away from game competition, the South Plains College Texans (7-4) are scheduled to return to the court when they tip-off at 8 p.m. CST on January 3rd against Chandler-Gilbert College in Chandler, Arizona. They will follow that game with contests against Scottsdale CC on January 4that 8:30 p.m. CST; Phoenix on January 5th at 8:30 p.m. CST; and Mesa CC on January 6th at 5 p.m. CST. The Texans enter the stretch hoping to extend their three-game winning streak.

Chandler-Gilbert is 5-6 as they enter a weekend tournament being held December 28-30 at Phoenix College, a team that dominated them by a score of 82-64 on December 11.

Scottsdale narrowly defeated Phoenix College 74-71 in their last game on December 16 and currently sports an overall record of 6-3. With the loss, Phoenix sits at 6-5 overall.

After dropping their first game of the season, Mesa CC rolled off four consecutive victories to bring their record to 4-1. Consecutive losses to Arizona Western, Chandler, Scottsdale, and Pima have dropped Mesa to 4-5 on the season.

South Plains has four players averaging 10 or more points per game, led by Greg Gainey at 14.8. Sophomore Brandon Thompson has contributed to the Texan cause with 11.6, whileDerrell Edwards and Deshaunt Walker add 10.4 and 10.3, respectively.

On the season, the Texans have outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 points per game, scoring 79 points per contest while holding opponents to only 62.4 points.
