SPC Texans Blast Lubbock Christian JV 108-33
Levelland, Texas - The South Plains College Texans opened the 2010-11 season by shooting nearly 65-percent from the floor on their way to blasting Lubbock Christian University's junior varsity squad 108-33.

Led by four players scoring in double figures, the Texans broke the game open early and went to the locker room with a 58-20 lead. They returned in the second half to outscore their opponent 50-13 for the 75-point victory.

Freshman Malcolm Miller led the Texans with 22-points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, while Deshaunt Walker made 7-of-10 for 17-points. Greg Gainey and Brandon Thompson each chipped in 11-points, respectively.

It was a busy day for the South Plains College athletic department as they hosted the  annual 'Meet the Texans' barbecue round-up that featured a full day of cooking outdoors by local cooking teams. Of the 12 teams entered in the contest, 'Soil, Oil, and Money' came out on top according to local judges Bo Bowman, Jim Cole, Sammy Torres, and Michael Wiiest. The team was composed of representatives from American State Bank and Butch's Rat Hole & Anchor. Finishing second and third were Allied Oil and last year's defending champion, Sundown State Bank.

Other teams competing were Big Bear Oilfield Service, 'Trucks 'N' Trailers (Smith South Plains/Danny's Trailers), McCutchin Construction, 'Burnt by the Best' (Musselwhite Trucking), Rose Equipment, Oxy Permian, Atmos Energy, City Bank, and G&C Contracting.
