Texan Basketball Signs Point Guard from Maryland
The South Plains College Texan basketball staff announced the signing of Deshaunt Walker, a 6-0 point guard from Silver Spring, Maryland.

The Texans averaged 72.3 points per game this past season, down from 82 points per game during the 2008-09 season. SPC head coach Steve Green believes Walker has the talent to help boost the Texans scoring average.

"We are really excited to have a player of this caliber join our team. In this league (WJCAC) you must have tremendous guard play to be successful and I think we found a tremendous guard in Deshaunt," Green says.

Walker said he began doing some research of his own when he was initially contacted by the SPC coaching staff by looking at both the school and athletic websites and found that he really liked what he saw.

"I really liked the website and the way basketball is emphasized. The coaches made me feel like I would fit in really well and could contribute immediately. I can't wait to get there," said Walker before adding, "I also liked the way they emphasized education. I really want to improve in the classroom as a student. That is my number one goal."

In 25 games this past season Walker averaged 15.5 points per game, including scoring a season high of 25 points three times.
