Gross Has Career Night in 86-75 Texan Victory
LEVELLAND, Texas - Sophomore transfer Khaliq Gross played all 40 minutes and made 11-of-19 shots from the field on his way to scoring a career high 27 points in helping lead the SPC Texans to an 86-75 victory over the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (16-5, 2-3). The win improves the Texans overall record to 12-7 and their record in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) to 2-3.

The Texans trailed for most of the first half, but never by more than four points. With just over three minutes to go before intermission, SPC's Eian Davis stole the ball from FPC's Trevor Niles and dished it to Gross who scored in the paint to force the sixth tie of the half, 29-29. Niles fouled Gross on the play, who converted the free throw to SPC the lead. The Texans would go on to take a 35-33 lead to the locker room.

Five minutes into the second half the game saw its ninth and final tie of the contest when a Plainsmen shooter nailed a three to knot the score up at 46 apiece. Over the next three minutes SPC went on a 13-2 scoring run to take a commanding 11 point lead, 59-48.

The Texans would never trail again as they cruised to victory, scoring 51 points in the second half.

South Plains College returns to the hardwood on Thursday, January 28th when they travel to Roswell, N.M to face the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos (9-11, 1-4), who fell hard to number one ranked Midland College tonight, 105-67.
