Texans Play Tough Against Top Ranked Midland
MIDLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Texans (10-6, 0-2) gave the top ranked Midland College Chaps (18-0, 2-0) quite possibly the toughest game they have had all year.

Nine minutes into the contest the Texans and the Chaps were knotted up with 14 points each. Unfortunately, Midland went on an 11-2 scoring spree over the next 3 ½ minutes to take a commanding 25-16 lead with 7:35 remaining.

Sophomore Texan forward Bo Ingram heated up in the final six minutes of the first half and hit three 3-point shots to keep the Texans close as they went to the locker room down six, 35-29.

Entering the second half the Texans went to work chipping away at the Midland lead and eventually cut it to two points with just under 15 minutes to play, 40-38. The Chaps then went on another big scoring run over the next five minutes to increase their lead to 10 points, 50-40, with 10 minutes to go in the game.

The Texans were not done fighting as they clawed their way back into the game and to within two points when Winston Graham took a pass from point guard Josh Orta and nailed a 3-pointer with 3:38 left on the clock.

Midland converted a two point bucket on its next possession to make it a two possession game, 58-54, forcing the Texans to foul to stop the clock, sending Chap players to the free throw line where they made 15-of-17 for the game, whereas SPC shot only 7-of-16 for the game.

In the end the Texans fell to the Chaps by the score of 65-57.

The Texans were led by sophomores Bo Ingram and Myles Walker. Ingram made 4-of-9 three point attempts and ended with 14 points while Walker was 6-of-16 from the field, finishing with 13 points while playing nearly the entire 40 minutes.

South Plains will return to the Texan Dome on Monday, January 18th when they face Western Texas College at 7:45 p.m. on Holiday Inn Express night. The Westerners are 0-2 in WJCAC play after falling to Frank Phillips by the score of 82-75 this evening and Odessa 75-63 on Monday, January 11th.

At halftime of Monday's Texan and Lady Texan games the SPC athletic department will raffle off a portable dvd player and a 22-inch vizio HDTV, courtesy of Holiday Inn Express of Levelland.
