Texans Fall to Howard College 59-47

LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Texans are 10-5 overall and 0-1 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference after losing to the Howard College Hawks by the score of 59-47 Monday at the Texan Dome.

Neither team played particularly well in the first half as SPC made only 8-of-25 (.320) shots from the field, which was only slightly worse than Howard's 9-of-23 (.391). The Texans trailed by as many as 14 points, but fought back and went to the locker room down only six, 27-21.

After falling into an 11 point hole early in the second half, the Texans went on a 7-0 scoring run to get within four points, 34-30. That would be as close as they managed to get to the Hawks the rest of the game as they eventually fell by the score of 59-47.

Sophomore Tramar Sutherland led SPC with 16 points and also had six rebounds as he played all 40 minutes of the contest. Myles Walker added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Texans will look to return to their winning ways when they travel to Midland on Thursday, January 14th to take on the NJCAA number one ranked Chaparrals of Midland College, who are 17-0 overall and 1-0 in WJCAC action after Monday nights 85-72 road victory at Frank Phillips College.
