Texans Fall to Collin; Defeat Grayson at Thanksgiving Tournament

PLANO, Texas - The South Plains College Texan basketball team returned to Levelland late Saturday night with an 8-2 overall record after falling to tournament host Collin County Community College 58-55 Friday night and then bouncing back for a 48-38 win against Grayson College on Saturday.

The Texans jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the game versus Collin County, before surrendering eight consecutive points to the Cougars who would lead by as many as ten points in the game, 29-19, with just over four minutes to go in the first half. SPC trailed Collin 34-25 at intermission.

The Texans fought back in the second half and led by a score of 45-39 with eight minutes remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, Collin County tied the game back up, 51-51, behind a 12-6 scoring run and would end up defeating the Texans by a score of 58-55.

Four Texans scored in double figures versus Collin County, led by Sophomore Bo Ingram who scored 13 point on five-of-10 shooting and also grabbed seven rebounds. Myles Walker recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Tramar Sutherland and Josh Orta added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Saturday's game versus Grayson was a low scoring affair, but it appeared the Texans would dominate the Vikings as they allowed them to make only 4-of-17 shots in the first half and led by 22 points at halftime, 33-11.

After converting 11-of-26 first half shots, SPC came out cold in the second half making 6-of-16 and scored only 15 points. It was enough and the Texans left Plano with a 48-38.

Myles Walker led SPC with 14 points and was one-of-three Texans to play all 40 minutes, along with Josh Orta and Tramar Sutherland. Orta had nine points and seven assists.

The Texans will return to the hardwood on December 5th when they travel to Weatherford for a 4 p.m. matchup with Weatherford College.
