Texans Fall to Midland

LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Texans fell to Midland College Monday night 75-63 at the Texan Dome.  The loss drops SPC to 10-3 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference action and 22-3 overall.  Midland moves 1.5 games ahead of SPC in the standings with a 12-2 WJCAC record.

The Texans jumped on Midland early by getting out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes.  After a Midland field goal made the score 10-4, Landon Tatum nailed a long three point attempt as the shot clock expired to increase the Texan lead to nine.  On the next trip down the court Midland's Brad Kelleher answered with a three of his own, and then a minute after that converted a layup to bring his team within four points.

With 12:28 to go in the half South Plains College led 18-11.  At this point, Midland went on a 26-7 scoring run over the course of the half to go to the locker room leading 37-25.

Midland then began the second half by scoring the first five points to stretch the lead to 17.  SPC continued to fight as they eventually narrowed their deficit to single digits with 11:31 remaining, 52-43 on a Landon Tatum three pointer.  Unfortunately, Midland was able to go on an 8-0 run to again go ahead 17 points.

Over the next eight minutes the Texans would fight their way back into the game, eventually pulling within six points with only two minutes left on the clock.  That was as close as the Texans would get as they were forced to foul and Midland made free throws down the stretch and sent SPC to only their third loss of the season, 75-63.

The Texans return to the hardwood on Thursday when they travel to Borger, Texas to face Frank Phillips College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be aired live on KLVT 1230 AM and www.hprnetwork.com.
