SPC Men Dominate NMMI
The South Plains College Texans improved to 10-2 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play and 22-2 overall when they defeated the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos 82-60 Thursday night.  The win sets up a showdown on Monday, February 16 with the Midland College Chaparrals, who are 11-2 in the WJCAC.

The Texans jumped out on NMMI and never looked back.  Led by Bo Ingram's six points, SPC began the game on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes of the game.  NMMI could never decrease that deficit to any less than six points as the Texans cruised out to a 19 point lead at halftime.  Hugh Mingo scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half.

Jumping out to as many as 25 points in the second half, the Texans allowed NMMI to make it somewhat intersting as the Broncos went on a 22-10 run to narrow the deficit to 13 points with just over six minutes to go.  Led by David Tairu, who scored 14 of his team high 21 points in the second half, the Texans picked up their game and went on to close out the game with a 22 point victory.

The Texans return to the Texan Dome on Monday, February 16 when they face conference foe Midland College.  This contest will have major conference and national implications as the teams are tied atop the WJCAC standings and ranked in the top ten in the NJCAA with SPC ranked fifth, and Midland sitting seventh.

Covenant Hospital of Levelland is sponsoring Mondays game.  At 5:30 p.m. as the Lady Texans tip-off, the SPC athletic department will host a brisket and chicken dinner.  Cost of the meal is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children ages 6-12.  Children under 6 years of age may receive a free hot dog.  At halftime of the men's game there will be a drawing for a 37 inch Vizio LCD television.  You must be 18 years of age to win and will receive one complimentary ticket with paid admission.  Extra tickets may be purched for $2.00, or three for $5.00.  All proceeds will go to fund the fight against breast cancer.
