Texans Lose to Midland 74-60

MIDLAND, Texas - The 13th ranked South Plains College Texans fell to 15-2 overall and 3-2 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play as they lost to the Midland College Chaps 74-60 Thursday night.

The Texans put themselves in an early hole, falling behind by ten points in the first ten minutes of the game, and eventually going to the locker room down by eight points, 36-28. However, South Plains had reason to remain optimistic as the game was very much in reach despite the fact they had not been shooting the ball well. The Texans hit 11-of-34 (32.4%) shots in the first half and only 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.

The Texans came out of the locker room ready to play and eventually tied the score at 53 with 9 minutes and 25 seconds to go in the game. However, only 30 seconds later, freshman post Myles Walker was whistled for his fourth foul and had to take a seat on the bench. With Walker out of the game, Midland post Kavon Lytch took the game over, scoring 14 of his game high 26 points in the final eight minutes of the game to help lead his team past South Plains.

Tramar Sutherland led South Plains with 17 points, while sophomore David Tairu added 15. Freshman post Myles Walker scored 10 points. Also for SPC, Ladarius Hall scored seven points, Landon Tatum added five, while Antwain Thomas and Markhuri Sanders-Frison scored three points each.

South Plains will look to return to their winning ways Monday, January 19 when they host Frank Phillips College at the Texan Dome. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will be aired live on KLVT 1230 AM and www.hprnetwork.com.
