Roger Reding enters his fourth fifth as the Director of Athletics for South Plains College. During his first season at the helm, the South Plains College men's track and field team continued their reign of perfection as they captured their 11th consecutive men's outdoor national title. The Lady Texan rodeo team won their second consecutive women's Western Junior College Athletic Conference title, as Chet Boren and Rainy Robinson qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo.

During the 2016-2017 season, the Texan basketball team set a program record by earning a No. 1 national ranking for 16 consecutive weeks before finishing third at the NJCAA Men's National Tournament. The Lady Texans also found success in the postseason as they advanced to the Women's Sweet 16 under head coach Cayla Petree. 

The Texans continued their dominance on the hardwood during the 2017-2018 season as they knocked off conference for No. 3 Odessa College in the Region V title game, earning an automatic berth to the 2018 NJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament in Kansas. The Texans went on to win five straight in Hutch including a 95-95 victory over Southern Idaho in the NJCAA Div. I Men's National Championship title game to capture the program's third national championship.  

Reding was named the new Director of Athletics for South Plains College in September 2016, taking over for longtime athletic director Joe Tubb.

Reding attended South Plains as a student following his graduation from Whitharral High School in 1979. He then moved on to complete his education at Texas Tech University. Reding would return to his roots in 1984 when he accepted the assistant women's basketball coaching position under legendary South Plains head coach Lyndon Hardin. Following the 1984-1985 season, Reding went on to accept the boy's and girl's head coaching position at Whitharral High School.

"Not many people get to come back to a place that they genuinely love," Reding said. "I love South Plains College, I love Levelland and I love junior college athletics, so this a dream come true for me."

During the next two seasons, Reding compiled a 70-42 overall record, capturing two boy's district titles and one girl's district championship. Reding would then return to Levelland once again, returning to the role of assistant women's basketball coach under coach Hardin. Following the 1990 season, Reding moved on to his alma mater, becoming the assistant women's basketball coach under Hall of Fame coach Marsha Sharp.

Over the next 16 years, Reding would help the Lady Raiders reach levels never seen before, as they went on to reach the NCAA tournament 16 times, made 11 Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eight appearances, and captured the 1993 NCAA National Championship, Tech's only women's basketball title to date. Following his career at Texas Tech, Reding moved on to be an assistant coach and director of player personnel for the Chicago Sky of the WNBA.

Reding will be taking over a program which won 42 NJCAA championships under Tubb, who set the foundation for his predecessor to stand upon and continue the winning traditions that are accustomed to South Plains College athletics. Reding will look to continue that success, and help South Plains College remain among the elite programs in the NJCAA.

"The goals are to obviously keep this program among the top 10 in the nation, and win national championships," Reding said. "With our facilities and our support, we compete for national championships, not conference championships.

"We want to compete at the highest level, and I want to be able to give my coaches resources so they can compete at the national level year in year out. I've got to do a lot of things in my career, but this is definitely one of the most special days in my life."
