LUBBOCK — The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams closed out their final meet before nationals on Saturday, combining for four event titles at the Texas Tech Corky/Crofoot Shootout at the Fuller Track and Field Complex.

Ranked first and seventh in the latest national poll, respectively, South Plains will be back on the track May 16-18 at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Nationals Championships in Monroe, Louisiana.

South Plains' Jaime Moreno, the NJCAA leader in the men's javelin, took first in the event on Friday with a mark of 210' 11". In the men's 800 meters, freshman Hamdani Benahmed went 1:48.60 to take first. Divan Du Plooy placed first in the men's 3000 steeplechase, posting a 9:23.18.

The Texan's 4x100 relay team, comprised of Tajae Francis, Denzel Simusialela, Waly Bathily, and Gregory Prince put down a 39.50, good enough for second. In the men's discus, freshman Shamar Reid placed second with a mark of 192' 3". Reid would then take seventh in the shot put with a mark of 56' 9.5".

South Plains' Andrew Stone earned a fifth place finish in the men's long jump, turning in a final mark of 24' 5.75". Freshman Mouhameth Fall took second in the men's triple jump, going 52' 1.75". In the men's 1500 meters, freshman Matthew Gordon posted a 4:06.85 to take fifth in the vent, while Dishaun Lamb took sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.10.

The Texans will bring four of the country's top marks into the national meet, as sophomore Harry Crosby ranks first in the decathlon with 7073 points, and Moreno is first in the men's javelin with a mark of 218' 9". Fall leads the country in the men's triple jump with his mark of 52' 1.75" in Lubbock, while Isaiah Patrick is first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 13.78.

South Plains has posted eight top-five marks this season, as Hamdani Benahmed ranks second in the 800 meters to date with a 1:48.29. Benahmed also ranks second in the 1500 meters with a 3:41.09. Divan Du Plooy is third in the 1500 meters with a 3:42.95, while Khailan Vitalis ranks fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.00.

The Texan's 4x100 team comes into nationals with the third-best time this season with a 39.62, while reigning pole vault national champion Django Segovia is second with a mark of 16' 6.75". Andrew Steon ranks third in the men's long jump with a mark of 25' 3.5", while Harry Crosby is fifth in the long jump with a mark of 24' 10".

Lilian Mateo Torrez led the Lady Texans with a first place finish in the women's 500 meters on Saturday morning, turning in the top time of 17:59.11. The Lady Texan's 4x100 relay team comprised of Ruth Agadama, Sydney Roquebrun, Brandy Hall, and Breanna Clarke took second overall with a time of 45.48.

In the women's 400 meters, sophomore Rushana Dwyer was second in a time of 53.68, while Lilliana Guerrero was sixth in the women's 1500 meters in 4:48.71. Sophomore Leticia Quingostas was fifth in the women's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.47, while Ruth Agadame was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 19' 8.75.

The Lady Texans will head into national with six top-five marks. Rushana Dwyer ranks third in the country in the 400 meters with a 53.79, and fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.46. Lilian Mateo Torrez is second in the 5000 meters in 17:11.16, while Safhia Hinds is fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.87. South Plains ranks fourth in the women's 4x100 relay with a time of 45.60, and third in the 4x400 with a time of 3:42.65.
