Murphy leads Lady Texans to team title at Ranger College Rodeo

SWEETWATER — Allie Murphy led the South Plains College women's rodeo team to the team title over the weekend at the Ranger College Rodeo, posting the top time in barrel racing at the Nolan County Coliseum.

Murphy posted a 14.89 in the long round, followed by a 14.43 in the finals, good enough for a final average of 29.32 and 150 points. The Lady Texans would add another 100 points in breakaway roping as Janae Todacheenie placed fourth overall. Todacheenie clocked a 1.9 in the long round and a 2.9 in the finals, posting a 4.8 final average for South Plains. Maddie Bews also made in the finals in he breakaway running a 2.1 in the long round, but no timed in the finals to take 11th overall.

The Texans finished fourth in the final team standings in Ranger, totaling 270 points on the weekend. Brey Yore won the steer wrestling event title, totaling 155 points for South Plains. Yore turned in a 3.9 in the long round, and a 4.7 in the finals, finishing with a final average of 8.6. South Plains John Hisel added 115 points in team roping, turning in a third-place finish. Hisel rode with Jett Stewart of Weatherford College, running a 6.2 in the long round and a 13.0 in the finals, finishing the weekend with a 19.2 average.
