Yore takes second in steer wrestling, Texans, Lady Texans each place fourth at Odessa College Rodeo

ODESSA — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams opened the spring season with a pair of fourth-place team finishes over the weekend at the Odessa College Rodeo at the Ector County Coliseum.

The Texans totaled 170 points on the weekend, with the Lady Texans tallying 102 team points. Brey Yore led the men's team with a second-place finish in steer wrestling, posting a 7.1 in the long round and a 5.7 in the finals to finish with a 12.8 average and 110 points. Cayden Schulz was fifth in steer wrestling for South Plains, turning in a 6.8 in the long round and an 18.8 in the finals, notching 60 points on the weekend.

South Plains' Trey Adams rode with Mason Stueve of Weatherford College in team roping, posting a third-place overall finish. The pair clocked a 5.1 in the long round and a 5.9 in the finals to finish with an 11.0 average and 135 individual points.

Janae Todacheenie led the women's team with a fourth-place finish in breakaway roping, running a 2.4 in the long round and a 3.3 in the finals, posting a 5.7 average and 62 points. South Plains Allie Murphy finished eighth overall in barrel racing, running a 14.3 in the long round and a 19.3 in the finals to add 40 points for the Lady Texans.

South Plains will be back on the road March 21-23 in Sweetwater at the Ranger College Rodeo followed by a trip to Snyder April 4-6 at the Western Texas College Rodeo.
