Texans take second Saturday at Texas Tech University Rodeo

LUBBOCK — The South Plains College men's rodeo team placed second in the final team standings Saturday night at the Texas Tech University Rodeo at Cook's Garage in their final rodeo of the fall semester.

The Texans totaled 360 points, trailing only Tarleton State, who totaled 440 points on the weekend.

South Plains John Hisel tallied 175 points in team roping, riding with Jett Stewart of Weatherford College. The duo posted the top time, running a 5.6 in the long round and a 6.5 in the finals to finish with a 12.1 average. Brey Yore added 90 points in team roping, riding with Texas Tech's Titan Quigg. The pair clocked a 7.1 in the long round and an 8.5 in the finals, finishing with a 15.6 average.

Katie Bew and Kreece Dearing added 70 points in team roping, turning in a 6.9 in the long round and a 13.3 in the finals, finishing with a 20.2 average. Dawson Loewen and Kayden Lamb also qualified for the finals in team roping, running a 7.5 in the long round, but no timed in Saturday's finals. Dearing would then add 25 points for South Plains in steer wrestling, posting a 4.7 in the long round before a no timed in the finals, finishing with a 104.7 average.

Maddie Bews led the Lady Texans with 70 points in breakaway roping, placing eighth overall. Bews ran a 2.5 in the long round but no timed in the finals Saturday night. The Lady Texans finished sixth overall in the final team standings.
