Yore claims steer wrestling title, Texans take third at Frank Phillips College Rodeo

CANADIAN, Texas — Brey Yore won the steer wrestling event title as the South Plains College men's rodeo team placed third in the team standings over the weekend at the Frank Phillips College rodeo.

The Texans finished with 335 points, while the Lady Texans finished seventh in the women's team standings with 60 points.

Yore totaled 150 points in steer wrestling, running a 5.4 in the long round and a 4.7 in the finals to finish with a 10.1 average. Kreece Dearing took seventh in steer wrestling, posting a 5.5 in the long round and an 8.5 in the finals, totaling 15 points.

Nathan Clawson placed second in tiedown roping for South Plains, running an 8.4 in the long round and a 9.0 in the finals to tack on 130 points. Yore would then add 40 points with his eighth-place finish in the event, posting a final average of 27.9.

South Plains' Clayton Beshirs and Wyatt Mask took second in team roping, running a 6.6 in the long round followed by an 11.1 in the finals, notching 100 individual points. John Hisel added 25 points in team roping, running with Weatherford's Jett Stewart. The duo clocked a 6.2 in the long round before missing in the finals to finish with a 106.2 average.

Allie Murphy placed eighth in barrel racing, winning the long round in 17.24, and posted a 22.46 in the finals to finish with 60 points. Morgan Northcutt placed 10th in breakaway roping, running a 2.8 in the long round but missed in the finals Saturday night.
